Oxford's American Dictionary gives several definitions for the word community:

  1. a group of people living together in one place
  2. a group of people having a religion, race, profession, or other particular characteristic in common
  3. a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals
  4. Ecology a group of interdependent organisms of different species growing or living together in a specified habitat  (Oxford's American Dictionary, Electronic Edition, Copyright © 2005 Apple Computer, Inc., All Rights Reserved.)

The church was designed to be a community.  A group of people sharing their lives with one another, bound together by a common faith, enjoying fellowship, and living interdependently with one another.  Jesus used the anology of a vine, Paul a body, and John a family.  Each of these word pictures and others throughout the scriptures remind us of how we are linked to one another.

Luke records how the early church practiced this kind of community living:

They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles. All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  (Acts 2:42–47 NIV)

At Logan Christian Church our desire is to be a community of faith and love.  Jesus said, the greatest commandment was to love God and the second was to love our neighbor. (Matthew 22:37-40)  Our hope is that you will join us in our journey toward loving God more and loving our neighbors with the love of Jesus.
